New for Fall Winter 2018, the Wave13 Sole Unit is the third generation sneaker sole from ARKK Copenhagen. Developed over an 18 month period, the Wave13 is constructed using an injected EVA process to achieve its architectural form and high level of complex detailing, including: subtle curves, sharp angles, precision laser detailing and and graphic text.

A New Sole Unit, A New Chapter In The ARKK Story

New for Fall Winter 2018, the Wave13 Sole Unit is the third generation sneaker sole from ARKK Copenhagen. Building on ARKK’s two previous custom-crafted sole units—the Stable E-15 and Hover-X1—the Wave13 signifies a step forward in both design and innovation for the brand. Developed over an 18 month period, the Wave13 is constructed using an injected EVA process to achieve its arch-itectural form and high level of complex detailing, including: subtle curves, sharp angles, precision laser detailing and and graphic text.
The Wave13 debuts on four brand new ARKK sneakers for FW ‘18: the Apextron Mesh (out now, shop here), the Octako FG (drops Sep 4), the Chrontech Mesh HS (drops Sept 19), and the Hypertrex FG BOA (drops late Sept).
Behind the Design
The Wave 13’s dynamic, multi-dimensional form is directly inspired by Copenhagen’s Blue Planet Aquarium. Designed by 3XN Architects, the Blue Planet ‘floats’ in Copenhagen harbor and appears to ‘change shape’ when viewed from different angles: from above—a whirlpool, from ground level—a silver beast rising out of the water. This prismatic effect is paralleled in the Wave 13’s use of contrasting soft and sharp angles, laser cut details, graphic branding, and precision geometries. The new sole unit’s name points to the power and ever-changing shape of the sea (‘Wave’) and to the Blue Planet itself, which opened to the public in March 2013.
Construction Details
Constructed using a zero waste, injected EVA process, the Wave13 is ARKK’s most advanced sole unit to date: featuring a lightweight, hybrid EVA-rubber outsole, the sculptural Wave 13 is voluminous enough to compliment ARKK’s daring new sneaker collection and understated enough to reflect ARKK’s core design DNA.
